You’ve Got to Know When to Read ‘Em…

SummerReadEm

Summer Reading is now in full effect at BPL. It’s eight ridonkulous weeks of unadulterated reading and program madness, and it’s both the best (if you’re a fun-loving child or adult-sized child) and worst (if you’re a Scroogian “get off my lawn” type) time of the year at the library. We know it’s mostly about the wee ones, which is why we have this cavalcade of fun stuff planned to keep them loving library life all summer long. But we also take care of our not-so-wee ones, and that’s my domain. This year, I channeled my inner gambler, who is also often my outer gambler, and worked up a Texas Hold ‘Em-style reading game in which each card represents a different reading task and players earn bonus points for forming poker hands. The more you play and read, the more drawing entries you earn for a chance to win fabulous prizes, including a Kindle. For the nitty gritty details, click here.

To inspire you to play, read (or better yet, sing) the following to the tune of “The Gambler” by the Gambler himself, Kenny Rogers:

You’ve got to play Summer Read ‘Em
‘Cuz books: you need ‘em
Go ‘head and walk this way
Shoot, you should run
You’ll never find a better
Source of readin’ entertainment
You might even win some prizes
When the game is done
