Few holiday franchises make it to a third installment, and even when they do, things can get dicey. Usually, they’re doomed from the start by desperation moves like replacing beloved performers from the originals or bringing in Martin Short to be zany. Try as they might, they more often than not come up lacking in holiday magic. After delivering a successful sequel last year, the library is prepared to pull off the rare triumphant third entry in a trilogy with our third annual Holly Jolly Holiday.
This Saturday, December 17, we’re once again inviting one and all to join us for an all-day, family-friendly holiday extravaganza the likes of which this town has seen only twice before, when we did it those other two times. The unstoppable snowball of fun gets rolling at 11 AM, when Le Theatre de Marionette will perform their puppet show Peppermint Twist. Leslie the Elf will be doling out balloon art starting at 11:30 AM, and face painting will get going at 12 PM. Also starting at 12 PM, we’ll have a trackless train Polar Express-ing around the outside of the library, and we encourage you all to come on ride the train, it’s the choo choo, ride it (woo woo). One of your favorite ice princesses from Arendelle will be stopping by for photo ops and hugs (or high fives, if that’s more your thing) at 1 PM. From 1 to 3 PM, the Uptown Carolers will sing all the holiday megahits you love live, which gives listeners a merry vibe you just can’t pick up from listening to the same songs on the radio. The festivities will close with a special storytime with Mrs. Claus at 3 PM.
Throughout the day, we’ll have our laser engraver available for customizable ornament making, crafts and coloring sheets for getting artsy, and hot chocolate and seasonal snacks. All of this yuletide wondrousness is of course 100% free, so load up the family in the sleigh and dash through the…dry concrete on over to the library.
