At BPL, we sure do love our volunteers. You could say that goes without saying, and you’d be right, but of course, we’d never do that; we love them so much, we just have to say it. One of the ways we express our gratitude is with our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, which we’ll be holding tonight at the library. While it’s fun to recognize our volunteers as a group with a delectable feast of thanks, our thoughtful volunteer coordinator, Kathy S., decided some individual recognition is in order for our precious helpers. Beginning this month, she’ll be showcasing a different volunteer as our Volunteer of the Month. The featured volunteer will have a write-up and photo displayed in the library and on our website. Kathy sat down with our inaugural honoree to talk about her experiences with volunteering at the library:
Congratulations to our first Volunteer of the Month for April 2017 at the Benbrook Public Library: Anna Marie McCarthy!
How long have you been volunteering at the library? Anna has been with the library for over 16 years! Anna recalled that Nancy Cooper asked her when she could start volunteering and she replied, “Right now!”
Why did you want to become a volunteer at the library? Anna loves being around books.
Who are some of your favorite authors? JoAnn Fluke, David Baldacci, Ann Ross and Debbie Macomber. Anna likes the feel of a book instead of an E Reader. She is always checking out her library books after volunteering at the library.
What do you enjoy most about being a volunteer? Anna likes being in the library environment and said she enjoys the people that are employed at the library. She said “That they are the best and very caring individuals”. She has met many friends during the years and you can tell she treasures their friendships.
Thank you for all your hard work, Anna! The Benbrook Public Library wouldn’t be the same without volunteers like you!
