With the sorry state of sports getting sorrier seemingly every minute (you’ll be sorely missed, 82) in DFW, there’s a good chance we won’t be seeing any of our local teams engage in any high-stakes, high-level competition anytime soon. Believe it or not, the library, or rather, a group of libraries, have stepped up to fill the void for rowdy, adult beverage-fueled competition spectating.
Tomorrow, April 28, at 12 PM, the Benbrook, Burleson, Euless, Keller, and Weatherford public libraries are joining forces to put on a regional adult spelling competition at the Collective Brewing Project in Fort Worth. Ten teams, each of which placed in the top two at one of the involved libraries’ local spelling bee, will duke it out for the title of Best Spellers in DFW…at least according to some librarians.
All are invited to cheer on these fierce warriors and take in the high-octane carnage of competitive spelling. If the action itself isn’t enough to lure you, remember, the bee is taking place in a brewery, so there will be frosty beverages available for purchase, and I’m not talking about milkshakes (but how great would that be?). We’ll also have a fabulous prize bag up for grabs via a free raffle, and if you’re into hacky bee puns, you’ll absolutely love it.
We hope you’ll be(e) our guest and have some fun with us. If you’re bummed about missing out on getting to compete, your dreams of spelling glory aren’t dead; BPL will be hosting monthly adult spelling bees at Collective throughout the summer months, starting Tuesday, May 8 at 7 PM.
