A Poetic Thanks to Library Volunteers

volunteers

Tomorrow is one of the best days on the library calendar: our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Because it’s National Poetry Month, I thought it would be fun to commemorate the occasion haiku style.

We love volunteers
Without them, we’d be broken,
A book with no spine

Appreciation
Takes many delicious forms
We choose barbecue

Tomorrow, we feast
On ribs, brisket, pork, and more
Don’t forget the sauce

It’s all to show thanks
And let our volunteers know
They butter our roll

Not literally
I’m saying they’re important,
Metaphorically

It’s poor poetry
To state your exact meaning
So forgiveness, please

But it must be said:
Our volunteers are the best,
Quite literally
